Gas Generators are often replaced with spare units that are not aerodynamically compatible with the Power Turbine’s match area, which is dictated by the flowing area of the Power Turbine Stator. As a result, the Gas Generator reaches a control parameter (Speed or Exhaust Gas Temperature) limit at a significantly reduced output level. Mismatches frequently reduce a unit’s maximum output by 15% and sometimes as much as 40%. Operations experiencing this issue realize the severity of the performance loss, but very few technologists understand how to resolve these issues.
