Above Base Load Algorithms
Above Base Load Algorithms are available for many aero-derivative type Gas Turbine units. This technology allows the Gas Generators to operate at levels of up to 16% above the manufacturers recommended Base Load Exhaust Gas Horsepower control line. Algorithms are employed, which correct the actual Gas Generator’s operating hours and allow the operator to accurately assess available remaining Gas Generator engine life. With ABL, the Gas Generator’s running hours are only accelerated (corrected) according to the usage of ABL, which is based on the ABL magnitude and time. This allows operations to utilize this reserve capacity when the additional output/capacity is required.
ABL has proven extremely useful during hot summer ambient environments when capacities are greatly reduced. It is also useful to make up for capacity loss when a unit is shutdown or for operations with chronic capacity shortfalls.
